Shore Road Update
Nymphing Practice Brad Sprinkle A lot of us go into withdrawal from trout fishing this time of the year. Here's a warm water suggestion to pass the time till the cool air comes again. Rig up two buggy looking nymphs and/or a San Juan worm under a strike indicator. Go down to the French Broad and nymph up some good sized bluegill. The technique is the same as trout. Just cast up stream near to cover that's obvious or underwater and get a dead drift going back down to yourself. You'll have a ball when you find them.
Dead Drift - a perfect float (the fly is traveling at the same pace as the current); used in both dry fly and nymph fishing (see mending line and "S" cast). More Definitions: http://en.mimi.hu/fishing/dead_drift.html
You will also notice that your skills with the dead drift will improve with practice. Be careful and have some fun. Wade safe.
