North Mills Stocking with NC WRC
LOS TU volunteers assist Wildlife Resources Commission personnel with stocking the delayed harvest section of the North Mills River. Volunteers carry buckets of fish from the truck to the water, and distribute the fish in their new home. Because of our volunteers, distribution of fish is more even and widespread than would otherwise occur.

On stocking days, meet at 10am at the main parking lot of the North Mills River Campground.

Directions from Asheville:

Take I-26 E.

Take Exit 40 for NC 280 toward Arden

Turn right at Airport Rd

Continue to follow Airport Rd

Turn right at North Mills River Road/NC-1345

Follow North Mills River Road to campground. Main parking lot will be on the left with a kiosk.

You do not have to pay to park on the day of the stocking if you are a volunteer.

The delayed harvest program of WRC has proven to be immensely popular. TU LOS volunteers help make the program possible. Regulations are as follows: fishing only with single hook, artificial lures, no natural bait may be possessed and no fish may be harvested or possessed while fishing these waters between October 1, 2008 and one-half hour after sunset on June 1, 2009. These waters are closed to fishing between one-half hour after sunset on June 1 and 6:00 am on June 2. At 6:00 am on June 2 these waters open to fishing under Hatchery Supported regulations: no bait restriction, no minimum length limit and 7 trout per day creel limit. These waters are marked with black and white signs. (See NC WRC website for additional information on NC fishing regulations).

Volunteers are always welcome to help stock the North Mills. No prior experience is necessary. Stocking volunteers get a special bonus: knowing where the big ones are.
